Glossary

  • Addressable LED: Addressable LED is defined as a single LED that can be controlled separately. It can be turned on, off or any colour at any given time.
  • Cabinet : When referring to the term cabinet, I mean the virtual pinball cabinet.
  • Backglass: a Backglass is the top monitor image on the cabinet.
  • B2S-Server: In a Nutshell, B2S server is a service running on the computer and is used in Visual Pinball to enable the backglass animation during gameplay.
  • Contactors: a device for making and breaking an electric circuit. This is used in the cabinet to enhance the effect when the ball hits a bumper, slingshot or flipper. It makes a clicking noise.
  • Crimper: A crimping tool is a device used to conjoin two pieces of metal by deforming one or both of them in a way that causes them to hold each other. The result of the tool’s work is called a crimp. A good example of crimping is the process of affixing a connector to the end of a cable.
  • Digital Plunger module : We will use a digital plunger module to emulate launching the ball with the physical plunger and force feedback with the built in accelerometer. https://bit.ly/2E6JISv
  • DOF: DirectOutput framework. The Directoutput framework relies on the B2S-Server. The B2S-Server implements a plugin interface which can load and execute plugins. This framework has been developed as such a plugin. Therefore you must first install and configure Herwehs B2S-Server before you can install the DirectOutput framework.
  • DOFLINX: DOFLinx is a utility to provide a bit of extra force feedback functionality in your pinball cabinet. It uses DOF to connect to PacLed64, LedWiz, SainSmart, Pinscape and Ultimate IO devices. It can run up to 9 logical devices.
  • Diode: a semiconductor device with two terminals, typically allowing the flow of current in one direction only a thermionic tube having two electrodes (an anode and a cathode). We are going to use them on our Solenoid, contactors and knockers to prevent power fluctuation.
  • Future Pinball: This is a free program used to play virtual pinball  https://futurepinball.com
  • LED: LED are the lights we are going to use for effects on the cabinet.
  • LED-Wiz: Led Wiz is a controller board that controls the Led,beacon, strobe and buttons effects. https://bit.ly/2E48mDp
  • Live: When referring to a Live wire, it is the Positive.
  • Neutral: When referring to a neutral wire, it is the Ground or Negative.
  • Playfield: is the monitor where the table is.
  • PinballFx: Pinball FX is a commercial program used to play virtual pinball. https://www.pinballfx.com/
  • PinballX: PinballX is an Interface that we will use to manage all Pinball programs and to launch tables.
  • Relay: an electrical device, typically incorporating an electromagnet, that is activated by a current or signal in one circuit to open or close another circuit. This is going to be our Sainsmart board. It is used to activate the Solenoids and contactors.
  • ROM : Read only memory. Roms are often use when emulating a game that I not the original. Some Visual Pinball games require roms.
  • Strobes: Strobes are a electric light that sends a pulse. We are going to integrate them to our cabinet.
  • Solenoids: a cylindrical coil of wire acting as a magnet when carrying electric current. This is used in the cabinet to enhance the effect when the ball hits a bumper, slingshot or flipper. It makes a clicking noise.
  • URL: when I mention a website URL it is the Internet address to reach the website ( ie. www.vpinball.com)
  • Zero delay board: This is a usb controller board that will allow us to connect and power our buttons.
  • Visual Pinball: This is a free program used to play virtual pinball. https://sourceforge.net/projects/vpinball/
